Diffractal is a dance piece that explores the trans-mediation of concepts, dance repertoires, and dancers' experiences in order to create a choreographic discourse that aligns with the idea of situated relationality. It is a work traversed by the desire to place the dancer and their intrinsic knowledge at the centre of the choreographic process in order to generate an ontologically entangled authorship that escapes the characteristic hierarchies perpetuated in creative dance processes.

We embarked on a collective and transdisciplinary creation that articulates basic compositional elements (dance repertoire notations, choreographic memories, somatic responses, biographical elements, mediated dance scores, and fictional elements) and components brought in by the agency of the different experts (dancers, choreographer, dramaturg, physicist, designer, musician, and videographer). The subject or theme of the work will be expressed via the movable structures of the 'in actu' and 'in motu' during the creation.

The team will consist of five dancers of Korean origin (A!KO dance festival), a dramaturg (Ira Goldbecher, Staatstheatre Braunschweig, a music composer (Alexander Kuzin, Gnesin Russian Academy of Music), a videographer (Constantin Georgescu, Kunstuni Linz), a space and costume designer (Julio Escudero, Coventry University/Deakin University), and a scientific advisor (Dr. Christodoulou Marios, QISS Vienna).

The project is supported by: Red Sapata Tanz Initiative, A!KO Dance Festival 2023, Cie. Of(f) Verticality, and Dr. Christodoulou Marios (QISS Vienna).

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:

A!KO TANZ FEST was established by Lee Jung In CREATION (Director: Lili Jung In Lee /KR, AT) in 2022, to celebrate the 130th anniversary year of diplomatic relations between Austria and Korea. The festival's main purpose is to introduce selected dance works through international dance cooperation and give the audience the dignity and joy of the dance art. Also, support emerging dance artists in expanding to the global field and make various dance events to unite people in the dance.

As the bridge of international dance networking of the dance community in Linz, A!KO will develop to go further with international artists and will be held with diverse dance programs in Austria, and Korea every year. The festival is supported by Gangwon Art and Culture Foundation Korea, land-oberoesterreich, Redsapata Tanzfabrik, Sonnenstein LOFT, and working under a strong partnership with CID Vienna Section,Tanzhafen Festival, Anton Bruckner Private University, Rosenberg Dance Festival.
