A Choreological Turn in the Construction of Fashion Objects

Dance  theories and the embodied knowledge of dance practitioners comprise a  vast understanding of the body and movement, all of which may inform  fashion design in many layers beyond the aesthetic, biomechanical and  performative aspects of  bodies in motion. The dancer's body is both body and dance, tool and  material, creating impermanent shapes in space. From movement education  to social activities, the unique combination of human experiences  through physical particularities of the human body are embedded in each  form executed by the dancer. Thus, a body's physicality, knowledge,  experience, and history combined materialize so-called trace forms in  space through time. The perception of the body as medium, creator and  material is a vital concept of dance knowledge that has the potential to  enrich fashion design practices. This work explores how the designer's  physicality, knowledge, experience, and history can be consciously  implemented as central elements at different stages of the design  process. This study demonstrates how this innovative approach helps to  generate volumes and shapes, colors, and proportions as well as the  production of new and innovative analog and digital materials. The  intentional intervention of the different personal and particular  aspects of the designer's life might lead not only to creating distinct  and unusual outcomes but also to redefining the relationship between the  designer and the designed object and the processes included in that  interaction. Working with traces of life as the material will lead to  the creation of new bridges of meaning between the designer, their  history, the material, and memory.

Julio Escudero was born in Rio Cuarto, Argentina. His dance education at the Taller de  Danza del Teatro San Martin (where he was awarded as best graduate) and  ballet courses at Colon Theatre were the starting point of a career as a  performer and choreographer that lead him to work for more than 20  years in Argentina, France, Spain, USA, Germany, and Austria, performing  as a soloist and main dancer in many productions. After graduating with  distinction in the Bachelor's program of Fashion and Technology, he  finished his master's studies in Fashion Design and Technology at the  Kunstuniversität Linz where he explored the relationship between  movement, body, and space from an artistic point of view. Since 2020 he is a researcher in the research project "Fashion and Robotics".

Loop Atmospheres

(2020 - 2022)

Cassette tape

Loop  Atmospheres is a compilation of short pieces and sound experiments made  as a personal outlet in a time marked by isolation and seclusion (2020 -  2022).  The works explore a  variety of atmospheres using loop, voices, everyday objects, traditional  instruments, and self-made instruments. The many layers of sound create thick and gentle textures that transport us to an ethereal and at times melancholic mood.

Roberta Lazo Valenzuela is a Chilean composer and visual artist living in Austria.

Her  work encompasses a variety of media including music, sound art,  installation, video, animation, paper art, painting, and collage. After  completing her bachelor's degree in composition, she migrated to Europe.  In 2018 she completed a Master in Composition in Linz and started a  second Master in TransArts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.  In 2021 she realizes an ERASMUS semester at the Oslo National Academy of  the Arts and finishes her studies in Fine Arts. As a composer in  contemporary music, she has participated in various festivals and has  worked with distinguished ensembles like Airborne Extended, Ensemble  Phoenix, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Tøyen Fil og Klafferi and Ensemble  Platypus, among others. In recent years, her composition and singing  have come together in a number of projects that incorporate elements of  contemporary, popular, and experimental music.

Her  music and visual work have been performed, exhibited, and/or released  in Austria, Germany, Norway, Romania, Latvia, Croatia, Chile,  Switzerland, Spain, and Ireland. www.robertalazovalenzuela.cl
