Residency artist Iria Arenas will be reworking their ongoing performance project during a two-week artistic residency at Sonnenstein Loft, alongside their working partner Aura Antikainen. Inspired by Professor David J. Getsy's essay "How to Teach Manet's Olympia after Transgender Studies",  their work reinterprets Édouard Manet's iconic painting "Olympia" in a contemporary context. Through a multidisciplinary performance that integrates dance, visual art, and personal narrative, “Transcending Canvases ft. Olympia” focuses on challenging and deconstructing dominant narratives related to gender identity and body image that have persisted in Western art history.
