OPEN CALL FOR RESIDENCIES 2026

OPEN CALL FOR RESIDENCIES 2026

Focus: #your topic & #AI Dances

RedSapata Kunst-, Kultur- und Tanzinitiative is excited to announce an open call for artist residencies in 2026! We are looking for innovative, multidisciplinary projects that explore themes of artificial intelligence, though we remain open to other themes related to nature, society, politics, and the body.

Artists of all disciplines, especially those in the field of dance, are encouraged to apply. Multidisciplinary projects that integrate the body as a medium are also welcome. The selected artists will benefit from a supportive working environment, including studio space and optional accommodations, to develop their artistic vision. Below are the key details and focus areas for this residency opportunity:

Focus Areas

1. General Focus on Artistic Expression

We welcome a wide range of artistic proposals, focusing on projects that creatively engage with the contemporary world. Whether your work touches on societal dynamics, nature, or political discourse, we encourage applications from artists who challenge norms and present fresh perspectives.

2. AI Dances

We are excited to support projects that explore the creative and cultural implications of artificial intelligence through movement and performance. We invite artists to consider how AI can be both a tool and a subject in dance - examining questions of embodiment, agency, authorship, and human-machine collaboration. These works should investigate the evolving relationship between technology and expression, and reflect on how AI shapes our understanding of creativity, identity, and the future of artistic practice.

Residency Details

Selected artists will receive studio space at Sonnenstein Loft or our second venue AUBERGiNE in Linz, Austria, for an approximate period of one to a maximum of four weeks. The studio spaces vary between 52m² and 180m², with flexible arrangements for usage. Artists may also request accommodations in two artist rooms at AUBERGiNE (max. 2 persons per room), subject to availability.

While the residency primarily offers workspace, artists are encouraged to seek additional funding for travel, per diems, and production costs. There is no obligation for a public performance, but residents are invited to share their work in a studio showing or submit for future performance events.
